The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
