The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
