The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
