The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
