The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
