The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
