The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
