The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
