The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
