The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
