The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
