The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
