The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
