In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
