The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
