The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
