The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
