The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
