The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
