The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
