Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
