The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
