The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
