The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
