The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
