The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
