The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
