The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
