The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
