The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or orders piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
