The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
