The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
