The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
