The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
