The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
