The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
