The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
