The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
