The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
