The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
