The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
