The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
