The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What is your opinion if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
