The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
