The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
