In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
