The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
