The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
