In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
