Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
